Astronomy Outreach Program at JNV Khatlal

PM Shri School JNV, Khatlal, Gujarat

I co-organized this astronomy outreach program with ICARD, Ahmedabad University, in collaboration with Project Orion, Invincible NGO. The program reached around 230 students from 8th, 9th, and 11th standard, many of whom were looking through a telescope for the first time.

The session introduced students to night-sky basics and constellation identification through hands-on activities such as planisphere making, an astronomy crossword, and a constellation hunt. The program concluded with live telescope observations of the Moon and Jupiter, giving students a direct and memorable experience of the night sky.

From Ancient Myths to Modern Missions in Astronomy

Ahmedabad University

I co-organized this astronomy outreach event hosted by ICARD, Ahmedabad University, in collaboration with Project Orion, Invincible NGO. The event brought together high-school, undergraduate, and graduate students from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, and was dedicated to the memory of Prof. Jayant V. Narlikar for his pioneering contributions to astronomy and cosmology in India.

The programme connected astronomy with both culture and science, moving from ancient sky observations and myth-busting to modern space missions. It included a Stellarium session, quiz, constellation hunt, telescope observations of the Moon and Saturn, and a radio astronomy demonstration using a pyramidal horn antenna. The session also briefly introduced the 21-cm hydrogen line as a tool to trace galaxy rotation curves and infer dark matter.
